Sailboat Wanted Ad Request- Chicago/Milwaukee area
Looking to trade a 19th century antique "cylinder style" desk for an 18' or larger sailboat that includes a swing keel and trailer.
Cylinder Desks preceded Roll-Top desks and adorned the homes and offices of the wealthy from the mid-1700’s until the late 1800’s. The solid and curved wood front rotates up and around to reveal the pigeon holes and drawers in the original insert as well as a pull out writing surface (ideal for today’s laptops).
This desk has been in the family and handed down. My understanding is it dates back from the late 1800’s and includes original hardware. The desk is in very good condition and appears to be walnut. I believe the manufacturer may be the Skandia Company. Skandia Furniture Company which began operation in Rockford, Illinois in 1888
Inside the roll top is a slide-out writing shelf and several small open compartments. Large sliding drawer and two bottom drawers with cabinet.
Size: 34” width, 42” height, 18” depth
