How UV resistant is primer?

Hi all

My poor cat is desperate for new non-skid, to the point that alot of the paint is now gone and exposing the epoxy filler underneath to the sun. I don't have time for a proper repaint due to other sailing commitments but I was wondering, if I prime it, will that provide some UV protection? I know it's not meant for that. Will it just chalk up and make the re-paint job worse down the track?

i noticed that you have no replies for your primer question so im all in. 

i have worked on boats for MANY years. I have found a primer made by glidden and carried by home depot called “gripper” is the best d**n indestructible stuff. It dont say “marine”  on it but trust me. Its a sealer primer. 

i once put it on an old fiberglass sailboat deck that was perforated. Actually leaking water through the fiberglass. The next day you could see where it seeped through all the pores and was visible inside the boat. Just 1 coat! I had health problems so there it sat in the Florida sun for a year. No damage whatsoever. None. No leaks. 

i roughed it with a scotchbrite pad and 1 coat of Petit easypoxy from West Marine. 5 years later its still fine. 

for actual non skid i use truck bed liner put on  with a roller. I get it from auto stores. It comes in a kit but you can buy it in colors. I paint the inside of anchor lockers with a quart kit i get from  auto parts stores. 

try this. Paint some gripper on 2 boards, put them together with weight or a clamp. The next day try to pull them apart. It will rip the wood apart. Really. Try painting it on a concrete block and soak it with a hose the next day. You will be amazed.
