My brother and i are looking to sail from corpus to SPI next summer (2011) and I have not heard if this is a good idea or a bad one, tips hints and tricks of the voyage or any thing. I am sailing a 23' aquarius swing keel, that when i bought the boat i had heard it had sailed down to Tampico MX and back a few times and I found marina receipts to back it up so I think it has been done. I have not been sailing long but think I could handle it I just want thoughts tips and hints from other sailors. Thank you

In my younger days, back in 1965 or so, I was a member of the Sea Explorer Squadron based out of Port Isabel Tex., We had 2 basic trimaran hulls donated to the group for build projects, upon completion we took a trip down the ICW to the other side of port Mansfield, which was just an over nite trip, we had two trimaran and a 21 ft sloop. had a blast, bring plenty of drinking water, sunscreen ,Bugspray, cameras and Food, All of laguna Madre bay is generally around 5 ft deep so swing keels have no problem. Its all water and not many places to pull over that are dry. watch out for mudbanks, and don't get out of the boat if you can keep from it, Push poles come in handy. most of all, have Fun, I plan to take my 22 ft sailboat down the Icw before I go to davy Jones Locker. lol
