Looking to buy my first sailboat after sailing a friends Hunter JY15 off and on for the past few years. I need to be able to easily trailer the boat as I have several lakes nearby and like the fact that I can take a couple of friends on the JY15 without a problem. I am often alone so I need to be able to handle the boat and one problem I have with the JY15 is getting the mast up by myself (always looking for assistance as I am somewhat small framed). Can anyone recommend a boat that is very easy to handle, safe and stable that possibly could be equipped with a small outboard so that I can get back to shore when the wind dies? I welcome any advice you can provide. Please email at dorth1010@gmail.com

I have the same question! However, I wouldn't be trailering it at all. I'd just like some advice on what size/make of boat is recommend for my first boat. I'd primarily be sailing alone, so would need a boat that I can manage myself. My intention is to store it in a wet slip. dorth, did you get any responses?

I am looking at a Flying Scot, Snipe and Coronado 15 to learn and eventually race. The FS would fit 4-6 adults and the other 2 maybe 3 adults. both centerboard except the Snipe which has a dagger board.
If you are looking for something with a inside area and not really to race check out the Precision 18, Venture 17, Montgomery 15(more expensive), Holder 17, Vagabond 17. All are trailerable and with a centerboard.
Check out the sailnet.com and look at similar titled forums. There is tons of info there. good luck!

Small Craft Advisor magazine did a comparison of "Three Popular Mini Cruisers" in their last issue (Mar/Apr 2014) where they compared the Montgomery 15, Com-Pac 16 and West Wight Potter 15, should you want a boat with a cabin of sorts. They also have devoted their magazine to trailerable sailboats only ... you might give them a look. Also check out the Trailersailor.com website for forums on a number of small boats that may interest you.
Good Luck in your search!
