Well, after 45 years of being a land lover and part of an aircrew for the military, I've come to the conclusion I've missed a lot of life not experiencing water travels.
I'm currently in the process of looking for a boat which will hold the Wife and two kids but this might take a while to find the right one. While I've looked at a few, my gut hasn't told me this is the boat for me yet.
While I venture out and try to get my feet wet I've come to the realization, my knowledge is lacking in most aspects of Sailing, boat repair and what exactly I need to inspect without being a victim instead of a happy boat owner.
I've started the process by taking and passing Basic Keel 101 and have schedule the 103 and 104 as a combo class in June. I have the ability to pick up book knowledge rather quickly but this will only take me so far. I know book knowlege will provide the basic understanding but the real teacher is experience and someone to share the mistakes not to make.
I'm currently living and working in Austin TX and I'm in search of a mentor. I'll be glad to put in some sweat work in exchange for showing or teaching me what I need to know to keep myself and more importantantly, my family safe. I'm free most weekends and I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty but I also don't want to be taken advantage of my good nature.
If you're willing to be a mentor to an old fart that will listen, I would be glad to hear from you. I can be reached at
cfcahill at yahoo dot com
Thanks
Chuck
