;D Just purchased a 1976 San Juan 24 for $1250. Think I got a good deal. Boat appears solid, has decent sails, a running 4 hp engine. Questions? What is the most cost effective way to get cushions made? What should cushions cost for the interior? What would I expect to pay to move it (fixed keel) about 100 miles? What works best to clean the mildew on walls? How to you clean the hull below the water line?
Thanks

I see you posted this over a month ago, but if you're still looking for an answer, I'd suggest using something with bleach for the mildew provided its a fiberglass surface you are cleaning. I'm not sure what you would use for fabric lined hull other than a small concentration of bleach and water. (I think I'd want new fabric on the hull liner if the mildew is that bad.) As for the hull cleaning, you can either hire a dive service to clean it periodically or clean it yourself. There are long scrubbing pads desighned from scrubbing the hull, They are designed to float so that they apply a little bit of pressure against the surface as you push it down beneatch the water line with an attached pole. As for moving the vessel, the largest expense is the stepping of the mast and whether or not a crane is needed. if a mover can run the boat up on a trailer from a boat ramp, then it may cost you less than 500 dollars. I've only priced out mine being a 28.5 and it would cost me 1500 to move it 25 miles, but my vessel would require the rental of a crane and the time it takes to deal with the mast and supporting gear.
As for cushions, its a matter of shopping around with different places. I was fortunate that I can go back to the OEM and order either new fabric or both the cushion and the fabric for a very competitive price. Fabric w/o the cushions for my boat ran me a little over 500, but thats for the v-berth, U-shaped settee, and quarter berth. I'm sure the amount of fabric your boat will require is different from mine.
I hope that helps.
