I have a small amount of sailing experience. Just moved from Houston to Baton Rouge, so, Lake Ponchatrain from the North Shore would be my playground...any suggestions?
Looking for sailing lessons in the area...

My best suggestion is see if there's a sailing club on any of the lake marinas. They may occasionaly have a sailing seminar. Otherwise check with marina offices and go visit a few of them and see if there isn't a posting board near the office. The marina my boat is slipped at has a post board where I found my boat, sailing school, dive service for hull cleaning and sailing club events.

I was in the market for a 25 foot Catalina, but my wife wanted a larger cabin so I ended up with a Hunter 28.5. Its my first sailboat. I don't think it really matters what size boat you choose to start in since all sizes requires a little bit different handling. Hohwever, I wouldn't want to purchase a new quarter million dollar yacht as my first boat since I'd cry, kick and scream like a little girl from scratching the boat trying to get it in and out of the slip the first few times. hehe.
I enjoy the opportunity for getting out in rough waters which means high winds. Had I owned a 22 foot boat, I would have probably paid to have her pulled from the lake bottom a couple times since smaller boats aren't as forgiving in high winds as the larger boats are when it comes to amatuer sailors like myself.

Hi there; good luck with your first boat. I started with a 20 foot, then a 27 foot, and am now sailing a 37 foot boat. Each boat was a joy and they all had there own characteristics. My suggestion is to enroll in a Power Sqadron boating course and check in your area for a sailing club to become familiar with basic sailing skills and boat handling. Take the time to learn the basics as well as the "rules of the road. Safe Boating and have fun; Capt'n Ron

My son in law just purchased a 1986 Catalina 25. This is his first sailboat. We need to see how the traveller is set up on this boat. Anyone have any suggestions on where we might see a photo of the rigging of the mainsheet for this boat. Thanks

If your boat is slipped in a marina, then you should be able to find some other Catalina 25's to sneak a peak at. They seem to be way too popular to not be noticed. I walk by at least 3 of them on the dock finger that I'm slipped at.
