My wife and I are currently attending college and we are wanting to take three months or so after we graduate and buy a sailboat (26' or so) and sail around the Caribbean. We both have minimal sailing experience and non of it on anything bigger than 14 feet or so. We have around three years of school left (we started late... what can we say?) and we are wondering if anybody has any suggestions of where to start and what to do now, like sailing lessons that might lean more toward open water sailing and navigation, etc. If anybody has any ideas please let us know. Thanks, Trey, Buda Tx

Think we might have contracted the same bug that has infected ya'll....still in the incubation stage. Might pick up some ideas here: www.cruiserlog.com/forums/index.php?My wife and I are currently attending college and we are wanting to take three months or so after we graduate and buy a sailboat (26' or so) and sail around the Caribbean. Buy the boat at least 1 year before going, and sail it every chance you get. Go out in heavy weather, and be sure to know how to heave to.
Bimini, Bahamas (northern Carrib.) is only 55 miles from Florida, and a good spot to jump off from. Then about 80 miles to next island chain, then mostly day sails to other islands.
It's a wonderfull trip. We are looking forward to our 9th trip there.
