Can anyone advise on the following, please?
Thinking about buying a used sunfish as I had one when I was a kid and I remember it being easy to sail and alot of fun. . However, I know boats have come along since then that may be a better choice. Laser, or dingy type? I can't even remember how to sail the sunfish anymore, so I am basically starting over in knowledge, skill, etc. The goal is small and easy to sail. I want a boat that I can beach by my house or pull up onto the dock. In other words I don't plan to trailer itanywhere and I want to be able to manhandle it around the dock out and into the lake. However, I do have a slip with hoist that could be used to park the boat and lift out of the water if weight dictated that. Another consideration is that I love getting wet in the summer in a sunfish, but perhaps could use the boat longer if a different boat allowed me to stay dry but was equally as easy to sail. Also, does anyone know if there is a site to lookup sunfish serial numbers? Do the older sunfishes (72 or so) have drain plugs? I have seen posts where folks install self bailers? I don't know whether they are puttting in one where there never was one or this is an improvement over a drain plug? It seems like the boat we had back in the day was set up to drain after a spill and you were up and running again? Would really appreciate any advice that's out there.
Thanks!

My wife and I bought a 1973 Sunfish in 1982 when we got married. The fun's not left it for us. We were sailing it today!

It doesn't get much better than a Sunfish for simple and fun! I own several sailboats and the Sunfish is the only one that we have NEVER even talked about selling or trading. The whole family loves it! Lasers are not as stable. The other sunfish type boats just aren't Sunfish. There is a difference IMHO.
There is one boat I would like to try. It is designed like a Sunfish, but it is 17 or 18 feet long, I think. I cannot for the life of me remember what its called. A "Big Fish" perhaps. Simple lanteen rig and big enough for two. Looks great!
Get the Sunfish! Good luck and good sailing!

sunfish are great boats and i have a little experience with them but some other good boats are hobie cats if your looking for a catamaran, also if you really wanna get wet, i suggest a skow type boat. funboats are also a good choice
